One of the nice things about this time of year are the Mangos and Cashews.  We have numerous of each of these trees so the kids can eat till they are content or sick.  Most people haven’t seen the Cashew au natural nor the process to get them eatable. So I thought that I would share how we do that process The ‘fruit’ we call the apple and the nut below.

Some people like the apple...some don't

mostly we throw them at each other as they are very soft nearly sponge like and splat nicely.

The ‘nut’ straight off the tree will burn your mouth as the very acidic oily husk is Urushiol the same chemical in poison Oak and Ivy.  To avoid that sensation you burn off the very flammable oily shell which makes for a great pyrotechnics show.  It spits and hisses and the gas/oil ignites, sending out nice solar flare like effects.  A true pyromaniacs delight. Juli was kind enough to burn some cashews up for us.

Then you will have the nut inside.

From the tree to Juli’s mouth.  A total of maybe 5 mins.

I hope you enjoyed that cashew!!
